Its time! Time for MAPLE SYRUP!
And OH YES, we are going to celebrate it! :)
For one weekend every March farms around the state open their doors to the public for breakfasts, tours, goodies and fun. Our favorite maple destination is Jillsons Farm in Sabattus. Not only can you watch them boil the sap, sample some fantastic sweets and purchase everything maple you may need to get you through till next year, you can visit the barn and meet their chickens, horses, bunnies, one HUGE turkey, and the sheep! And lets not forget the tractors and farm equipment! Ask Ed what his favorite part of visiting the farm is and he will very quickly and enthusiastically respond TRACTORS!
Yes, it was pouring and yes, it was freezing but that was not going to stop us! Heck, this only comes around ONCE a year! We suited up in our extra socks, galoshes, rain coats, and hats and headed to the farm to indulge in everything maple!
We discovered where they get the sap from.
And then explored the sugar shack and watched them boil it down to syrup!
Next on the list...find the greenhouse set up with all the yummy treats!!!
Maple syrup over ice cream!!
(My favorite!) Syrup on snow! If you have never seen or tried this before, I HIGHLY recommend it! Bubbly hot maple syrup poured over snow and scooped up onto a stick...sweet, sticky HEAVEN!
Then a walk through the barn.
And out to the pasture where we were lucky enough to meet these Mamas and a sweet little lamby this year!!! (the wee one was a bit camera shy!)
Yaaaaay Maine! :)))
