A True Montessori Moment!

A PATTERN BLOCK EXTENSION

Last week we saw high 80s is March!! Today . . . we saw a whopping 34!! So instead of spending our days outside in shorts and tees digging, chalking, trucking, melting ice and eating as many freeze pops as we could before the sun turned them to neon sugar water, we had to find our own fun inside-boooooooo!

Today Ed felt like working. And working and working! :) He is at a point now where almost daily he does or says something that just completely knocks me off my feet! Where did he learn that? How did he know that word? What on earth is going through that mind of his! Here's what my little smarty pants discovered today:
Shapes.
. . .
Shapes, that when manipulated, make other shapes!

One of our works set out today was the pattern blocks box. I chose it simply for the shape matching and fine motor control. Ed had different ideas! And in complete awe I watched as a magnificent Montessori moment unfolded right before me! :)))

Ed began with the simple pattern cards provided.
(and yes it helps your concentration if you stick out your tongue!)
I have to give MAJOR LOVE right now to MELISSA & DOUG! Their wonderful toys and learning materials make up at least half of our stash! Super quality, incredible mix of fun and function and just enough boy to suck Ed right in!
For example not only does this set include wonderful nature designs, it also includes:
Boats & Trains! PERFECT!!

After the pattern cards came TOWERS!

Then came some triangle experimentation!

And
SHAPES! Shapes inside shapes, shapes outside shapes, shapes on top of shapes!
I wish that I could take credit and say that this is what I meant to happen, but I cant! This was ALL Ed!
A completely organic, true Montessori moment!
What I can say though, is that I am one soooo very proud , happy, blown away Mama :)))
