Every Day Should Be Earth Day

EARTH DAY
Sunday April 22, 2012

I know that here in our little corner of the world respecting and protecting our Earth is a year round thing. And I know why I do it, to leave a beautiful, healthy planet for my children and his children and the many future children ahead of him. Lets not forget that greening your choices about what goes into your body and home not only benefits the Earth, but your body as well!
Reduce, reuse, recycle...plant, compost...buy locally...chemical free...no plastic...sustainable resources...minimal waste...energy conscious...water conservation...love for nature
Huge concepts for a 3  year old! But, hopefully by now, simply a way of life for Ed.
With Easter a closed door now and Earth Day 2012 rapidly approaching these days now are serving as way for Ed to:
A: Learn more about and love his tiny little corner of the universe (and others)! Also, to understand why it is so special and needs to be taken care of. From the universe he lives in all the way down to his home, on his street, in his city, in his state, in his country, on his continent, on his Earth. I hope that he will begin to understand and respect his home as well as those of others.
Also, as way to show Ed that there is so much more out there than what he can see or experience we have joined in a wonderful cultural exchange with 4 other families from all around the world in which we will put together and send out packages that represent our homes and lives!!
You can find more about this wonderful opportunity here:
Little Red Farm
You can also find her on FB and meet many other families worldwide!

AND, of course to:
B: Learn that children can make a difference too! No act is too small. The way that he lives his everyday life is in respect of the Earth. There are many actions and efforts he can make right now to help save and protect our Earth :) Simple everyday acts like recycling, composting, planting, turning off lights, being careful with water, donating or returning unneeded items (bottles, bags, clothes, toys, food), using the library, buying from the local farm stand, using his own bags and reusable containers, walking, teaching others (Sometimes sharing your knowledge and spreading the word is the biggest change you can make!)...and number one, loving and respecting nature.

I asked him if he knew what the Earth was. He responded with our street name. Yeeeees, the Earth is where we live... :) And then we talked about what the Earth is made of, water, land, air. To start us on our little Love The Earth journey Ed stamped some land onto a water covered Earth. And of course, he noticed that both Eddie and Earth begin with E! :)
